Description
Experience
the complex hybrid world of the Peranakans - a unique culture
forged between the Chinese, Malay and European worlds. The
Peranakan Legacy showcases the rich material heritage of the
Peranakans from the Straits Settlements and the Indonesian
Archipelago. Visitors will find dedicated displays of the
textile, beading, silverwork, porcelain, betel-chewing and
jewellery traditions of the Peranakans. Among the highlights
will be a display of the museum's renowned batik, embroidery
and beadwork collections and a chance to view exquisite silver
and porcelain pieces from the holdings of the Mariette
Collections; a major collection of Peranakan art.
